Dubsado markets itself with a $35/mo number. It’s a real plan, and it’s honest — but it’s also the plan most Dubsado users can’t actually work in. The features people switch to Dubsado for live one tier up, at a price nearly 60% higher.

Here’s the full structure, what each tier really unlocks, and how to tell whether you’re paying for capability you use.

Prices below were checked against Dubsado’s public pricing page in October 2026. Vendors change them — re-check before you buy.

The two plans, in plain English

Dubsado sells exactly two plans, Starter and Premier, each billed monthly or annually.

PlanBilled annually (per month)Billed monthlyAnnual total
Starter~$28$35$335/yr
Premier~$44$55$525/yr

Paying annually saves roughly 20%, or “two months free” in Dubsado’s framing — which is why almost everyone who commits ends up on annual billing and the $35 vs $55 monthly numbers stop being the ones you pay.

The catch: Starter is missing the reasons you’d choose Dubsado

This is the part the headline price hides. Dubsado’s whole pitch is that it automates your workflow — questionnaires, contracts, invoices, and reminders firing off on their own as a client moves through your process. That automation is Premier-only.

What Starter does not include:

  • Automated workflows (Flows) — the feature Dubsado is known for
  • Scheduling — no built-in booking
  • Public proposals — shareable, trackable proposals
  • Zapier and QuickBooks integrations
  • Unlimited lead-capture forms — Starter caps you at one

What Starter does include: unlimited projects and clients, invoicing and payment plans, form and email templates, and client portals. That’s a competent invoicing-and-portal tool. It is not the automation machine Dubsado advertises.

So the honest framing is: if you want Dubsado for the thing Dubsado is famous for, your plan is Premier, and your real number is $525/yr, not $335.

The extras that grow the bill

The base plan isn’t the whole bill once a studio scales:

  • Additional brands (separate businesses on one account): $10/mo each
  • Users: the first 3 additional users are free, then $25/mo for 4–10 users, $45/mo for 11–20, $60/mo for 21–30

For a solo photographer, none of this applies. For a small studio, it’s the difference between “$525/yr” and a noticeably larger line item — worth modeling before you commit to annual billing.

The trial is genuinely generous

Dubsado gives a 21-day free trial with full, unlimited Premier access, no credit card required. That matters for one reason: you can test whether you’ll actually build the automations before you pay for them. Most people who regret Dubsado didn’t discover it was the wrong tool — they discovered they never built the workflows that justified it. Twenty-one days is enough to find that out.

When it stops being worth it

The break-even question is the same one that applies to any workflow tool: are you using the automation you’re paying for?

  • If your Flows run and save you real hours every week, Premier is good value and you should stay — nothing else in this category replicates that depth.
  • If you’re on Premier and running your business out of a few manual invoices, you’re paying $525/yr for a builder you never used.
  • If you’re on Starter and only need invoicing plus a portal, you’re overpaying for a CRM when a spreadsheet and Stripe do that for free.

Signs it’s time to re-evaluate:

  • You upgraded to Premier for the automations and haven’t opened Flows in months.
  • Your booking volume dropped and the admin no longer justifies the subscription.
  • You’re paying Premier prices for a one-person studio you could run on a simpler tool.

What switching actually saves

A solo photographer on Dubsado Premier ($525/yr) moving to Studio Ninja’s Starter plan ($160/yr) saves about $365 a year — and gets the core loop (inquiry, quote, booking, contract, invoice) pre-built instead of hand-assembled.

That saving is real, but it only counts if the automations weren’t doing anything for you. If they were, the cheaper tool is a downgrade, not a deal. We broke down the realistic destinations in our Dubsado alternatives roundup, and the head-to-head against the two other big names is in the HoneyBook vs Dubsado vs Pixieset comparison.

One billing detail to know before you switch plans

If you move between plans, Dubsado’s cancellation policy limits any refund to the most recent amount you paid — upgrading from Starter Annual to Premier Annual, for example, lets you request a prorated refund based on the unused Starter time, not the combined total. And if your account sits on a legacy rate, that pricing is grandfathered, so downgrading or leaving can permanently forfeit it. Check your own invoice before you touch the plan selector.

If you’re leaving Dubsado entirely, the mechanics of getting your data out are the same as any move — see how to cancel HoneyBook for how the access-and-refund rules work, and the migration guide for the export-and-rebuild sequence.

The honest summary

  • Dubsado advertises $35/mo. Most people who need it pay $525/yr. The automation that defines Dubsado is Premier-only.
  • Annual billing is the real price — save ~20%, and then plan around the yearly number, not the monthly one.
  • The trial is full Premier for 21 days, no card — use it to test whether you’ll actually build the workflows.
  • Extras add up once you add brands or a team; a solo account won’t notice them.
  • If you’re using the automation, stay. If you’re not, you’re paying for a builder. That’s the signal to leave.
